A Red Letter Day.....

Lately my mother-in-law has been unknowingly teaching me to appreciate the magic of ordinary days. I didn't however realize how much that appreciation is spilling over into my kids.

Today on the way home from a home school field trip, my kids expressed how wonderful their day was by calling it a red letter day. (This is a phrase my mother-in-law uses but I never really considered the meaning of.) So when we got home I, being the Google University Graduate that I am, decided to look it up.
Wikipedia defines it as "any day of special significance". Which made me start thinking about all of the days I have taken for granted the special things, and how I need to show more appreciation for those things so that my kids will do the same.

You know what I mean, everyone has those "any days" when nothing really spectacular happens. We are often on auto pilot with our list of to-dos or in my case a list of books to read, math problems to check, laundry to fold, bills to pay, meals to cook, phone calls to return, you fill in the blank.
We tend to let the simple but special things just float by without ever really realizing the significance they could have in our lives and in the lives of those around us.

As this time in my life passes so quickly I am thankful that I am getting to live everyday with my kids and for this special red letter day.

A Great Thanksgiving Photo

We had a wonderful Thanksgiving with my husband's family. He managed to take this beautiful photo of our daughter with her great-grandmother. "Granny" is 92 and we love her dearly.
